Samnaun – Duty Free Shopping in Switzerland

Approx. 70 minutes by car

In the 19th century, the remote Swiss Samnaun Valley could only be reached by road from Austria. Thus Samnaun was excluded from the Swiss customs territory, and retains a privileged 'duty-free' status where you can buy cosmetics, cigarettes, alcoholic drinks and gas on a budget. Special Attraction: From early July through early September the Ischgl cable car conveniently whisks you up and down the mountain into Samnaun Valley.

Thanks to its sheltered climate that keeps the town mild in winter and cool in summer, Merano is lovingly dubbed "the Gem of South Tyrol".
